So I needed some alternate imagery besides bats to symbolize vampires, because I already established vamps don't animal transform in this universe. So I used a very stylized death's-head Hawkmoth.

As the name implies, they're historically associated with death, due to the skull-like image on their back and their ability to actually make a high-pitched squeak when disturbed. They were believed, in superstition, to be evil omens.

They also have a cool sounding name in Spanish. Cabeza de muerto~

Dammit it's still readable, you must be doing something wrong!

A random thought hit me (ow!) that perhaps center justification doesn't read as "handwritten" as left justify would. And also, Gothic texts have that thing where the first letter of each page is a big fancypants arty letter in gold (...ah but wait, this is a journal, not a formal text, d'oh!). Just an idea, feel free to ignore. Perhaps it is Too Late. Plus, your usual time constraints. Carry on. :)

Curses! Needs more pointless purple prose!

You make pretty good points there. I actually thought about making it left justify center, since most people don't write things centered... But I just like how it looks centered. Weird personal esthetic thing.

Perhaps I will try and make things slightly off center for the next page. For the realism.

Also... yeah, that giant cool letter. I figured one at the beginning was good enough.

You could just say that this is the Monk's redistributed version.

Those monks even made all the letters perfectly identical.
